Effects of cannabis

Short-term and long-term effects, and what affects how you feel.

Short-term effects

Common effects include relaxation, changes in mood, dry mouth, red eyes, increased appetite and changes in perception of time.

Some people feel anxious, dizzy or paranoid, especially with high THC or a large dose.

What changes how you feel

Your dose, the product's THC and CBD levels, how you consume it, your experience, your mood and setting, and whether you have eaten or used other substances.

Longer-term effects

Frequent, heavy use over time may affect memory, attention and mental health, and can lead to dependence. Risks are higher for people who start young.
